Ingredients:

For Frying
Bottle gourd – 1% cup
Gram flour – 5 tbsps
Onion-1
Red chili powder -1 tsp
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder -1 tsp
Oil- for frying
Cumin powder – 1 tsp
Pomegranate seeds-1/2 tsp
Garam masala –1 tsp
Oil –as required

For Gravy

Potato-2
Onion-1
Tomato – 4
Ginger-1 inch
Garlic-4 cdoves
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Oil-3 tbsps

 

Bottlegourd Kofta Curry Method:

For Frying

  1. Peel and grate bottle gourd. Squeeze out the water completely.
  2. Take grated bottle gourd in a plate or a large bowl. Add gram flour (besan), onion, salt, pomegranate seeds (anardana), turmeric powder, red chili powder and roasted cumin powder and mix them well.
  3. Mixture should have a thick consistency to make round shaped balls. If it is too water then add 1-2 tsp of gram flour and mix.Do not keep the mixture aside for too long otherwise bottle gourd will release water overtime and it will make the mixture soggy and you will not be able to make the kofta balls. So after making the batter don’t wait and start making the koftas immediately
  4. Grease your palms with oil and make the kofta balls into 10 portions.
  5. In a pan, heat the oil for deep frying. When oil is heated up then add 5-6 kofta balls at a time (if you have taken small pan then add 3-4 balls at a time). Stir them occasionally and fry them till they get light brown and crispy. Take them out and drain the excess oil with a napkin and keep it on the plate.

Bottlegourd Kofta Curry

FOR GRAVY 

  1. Grate the onions, ginger and garlic
  2. Grate the tomatoes on another plate.
  3. Boil the potatoes in the pressure cooker.Drain them. Peel them and cut them into pieces. Keep them aside.
  4. In a pan or kadhai/wok or even in a pressure cooker, heat the oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  5. Now add grated onions, ginger and garlic. Stir fry them till they get light brown.
  6. Add grated tomatoes, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, coriander powder and mix them and stir fry them till the oil get separates from the tomatoes. Then add potatoes into it and mix thern.
  7. Now add water as required for the mixture and cook them over medium flame.
  8. Finally, add kofta balls to the mixture and mix them well and cook them on medium flame for 3-4 minutes.
  9. Serve it in the serving bowl and have it with chapatti or parantha or with rice.
