Mix Dal Recipe

Ingredients:

Urad dal – 1 cup

Salt to taste

Chana dal – 1 cup

Tuemeric powder-1 tps

Onion-1 big

Red chili powder- ½ tsp

Tomato- 4

Coriander powder-1 tsp

Ginger –1 inch

Garam masala – ½ tsp

Garlic – 6 cloves

water- as required

Cumin seeds – 1 tsp

Oil or Ghee – 3 tbsps

Method: 

1. Wash and clean dal. Boil both dals in the pressure cooker and also add a pinch of salt, turmeric powder, bay leaf and cloves. Boil the dals till 2 whistles or after 1 whistle keep them till 15 minutes on medium heat.

2. Heat oil or ghee in another kadhai/wok; add cumin seeds, onion, ginger and garlic. Cook until onions get light brown.

3. Now add chopped tomatoes, salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, mix them and cook until tomatoes are soft and oil or ghee starts to separate from the mixture.

4. Drain both the dals and add them into the mixture and mix them well.

5. Adjust the consistency with water if re- quired. Simmer it for few minutes.

6. Serve it hot and garnish it with coriander leaves or ginger juliennes.

7. Serve it with tandoori chapatti or paratha or maybe jeera rice.

Ingredients:

Gobi danthal –1 full

Salt to taste

Onion – 1

Turmeric powder – 1 tsp

Tomato – 4

Red chili powder – 1 tsp

Ginger paste – 1 inch

Coriander powder –1 tsp

Garlic paste – 4 cloves

Garam masala – 1 tsp

Water – 1/2 cupP

Oil – 3 tbsps

Cumin seeds – 1 tsp

Method:

1. Take a fresh cauliflower and make sure its stem is fresh and green and not wilted. Let’s begin by cutting the danthal/cauliflower stems first.

2. Remove stalks and leaves from cauliflower.

3. Peel the stalks and Cut them in small pieces.Cut the leaves too. For the thick stem part,cut and slice them into pieces.

4. Wash them thoroughly under tap water.Rub the pieces and wash them again. Drain
and set them aside.

5. Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and as they start to crackle mix in ginger and garlic. Sauté for few seconds and mix in chopped onions. Sauté until onions turn golden brown.

6. Mix in chopped tomato. Mix and add salt,red chili powder, turmeric powder, corian-
der powder and garam masala and mix them well. Cook for couple of minutes until oil starts to separate.

7. Add chopped danthal (cauliflower stems).Add water and cover.

8. Let it cook for 20 -25 minutes or until the cauliflower stems are soft and tender. You can choose to pressure cook this for 4-5 whistles.

9. Cook until all the water has evaporated and oil starts to separate.

10. Serve it and garnish it with coriander leaves. Serve it with rotis or parantha and raita.
